Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO) Services

Be the answer, not a link.

Answer engine optimisation is the work of being the extracted answer — featured snippets, People Also Ask, voice results and AI Overviews. We restructure pages so the answer is liftable, and mark it up so engines can find it.

Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO) Services
Quick answer

We restructure the pages that already rank so a search engine can lift the answer straight out of them — into featured snippets, People Also Ask, voice results and AI Overviews. Typically a six to twelve week engagement over an existing site, not a rebuild. For the mechanics of how extraction works, we have written a full explainer on AEO.

Most sites that come to us for this are not failing at search. They rank perfectly well and watch the answer get read off the results page by someone else. The work is rarely new content: it is reorganising pages that already have the authority, so that the part a search engine wants to quote is findable, self-contained and marked up.

Key takeaways
  • This suits a site with existing rankings. If nothing ranks yet, the groundwork is ordinary SEO first — we will say so rather than sell this.
  • Movement usually shows in weeks rather than months, because it rarely depends on new authority.
  • We report on answers won and enquiries, not impressions. Being quoted without being contacted is not a result.
  • Nobody controls extraction. Any guarantee of a snippet is a guarantee of something the seller does not own.

What we do

  • Question research — the real phrasings from People Also Ask, Search Console queries and the questions your sales calls keep repeating.
  • Answer-first rewrites — a direct, self-contained answer under each heading, before any build-up.
  • Question-led headings, so the page structure matches the shape of the query.
  • Extractable formats — comparison tables, numbered steps, definition lists.
  • FAQPage and HowTo schema where there are genuine questions and genuine steps, not bolted onto pages that have neither.
  • Tracking of which queries you hold position zero for, and which you lost.

How we run it

  • Week 1 — we pull your Search Console queries and find the pages already ranking for questions, which is where the fastest wins are.
  • Weeks 2–6 — answer-first rewrites on those pages, question-led headings, and schema where the questions are real ones.
  • Ongoing — monthly tracking of which answers were actually won, and what they sent you.

The rewriting discipline itself — what makes an answer liftable, and the formatting that gets it extracted — is set out with worked before-and-after examples in our AEO explainer. We have put it there rather than here because it is useful whether or not you ever hire anyone to do it.

Frequently asked questions

What is answer engine optimisation?

Structuring content so a search engine can extract a direct answer from it and present that answer above or instead of the usual results — in a featured snippet, a People Also Ask box, a voice response or an AI Overview.

Does AEO reduce our traffic by answering the question for people?

For purely informational queries, sometimes — the user gets their answer and does not click. For commercial queries it works the other way: being named as the source of a comparison or a cost answer is frequently what earns the click, because the user now has a reason to trust you specifically.

How long does it take to win a featured snippet?

Faster than most SEO work, because it does not usually require new authority. Where you already rank on page one, restructuring the answer can win position zero within weeks. Where you do not rank at all, the ranking has to come first.

Is FAQ schema still worth adding?

Yes, though its visible rich-result treatment has been reduced in Google results. It remains one of the clearest machine-readable statements of what a page answers, and both answer and generative engines read it — so the value has shifted rather than disappeared.

How the engagement runs

  • Scoping call, then discovery. We establish what you actually need before quoting. You approve scope before we write a line of code.
  • Fixed price or capped time and materials. Tightly specified work suits a fixed price; genuinely new work suits a capped retainer. We recommend one rather than offering both and letting you guess.
  • Weekly demos. You see working software every week, so nothing surprising turns up at the end.
  • You own everything. Repositories, infrastructure and documentation transfer to you on payment. No vendor lock-in, no licensing you do not control.
  • NDA as standard, usually before the first detailed call. We will often send one ourselves if you do not.

If you are planning work of this kind and want a straight assessment of scope, timeline and cost, tell us what you are building. We work with clients across the UK, EU and US.
