Website Maintenance Packages
Updates, backups, and someone to call.
Website maintenance for UK businesses — managed updates tested before they go live, monitored backups, security hardening, performance checks and a defined response time when something breaks.
Website maintenance is managed updates, monitored backups, security hardening and a defined response time when something breaks. The value is not the task list — it is that somebody is accountable when a plugin update takes the site down on a Friday afternoon.
Most sites are maintained by nobody in particular. Updates are postponed because the last one broke something, backups exist but have never been restored from, and the person who built it is no longer answering. The first time this is noticed is usually the first time it matters.
- A backup you have never restored from is a hypothesis, not a backup.
- Deferred updates are the most common route to a compromised site.
- Updates should be tested on staging, not applied hopefully to production.
- What you are buying is a response time, not a checklist.
What is covered
- Managed updates — core, plugins and themes, tested on staging before production.
- Backups taken daily, stored off-site, and periodically restored to prove they work.
- Uptime monitoring with alerts that reach a person.
- Security — hardening, malware scanning and prompt patching of known issues.
- Performance checks, so Core Web Vitals do not drift quietly downward.
- Content amendments within the hours your package includes.
Frequently asked questions
What does website maintenance cost in the UK?
Maintenance is included in our retainers, which start at £799 a month and also cover SEO, content and social — the pricing page lists what each tier includes. Maintenance-only arrangements are possible for sites we have built.
Do you maintain sites you did not build?
Usually, after an audit. We need to know what is there before taking responsibility for it, and occasionally that audit finds a site that needs work before it can sensibly be maintained.
What happens if the site goes down?
Monitoring alerts us, usually before you notice. We diagnose, restore from backup if that is fastest, and tell you what happened afterwards. Response times depend on the package and are agreed in writing rather than implied.
Are plugin licences included?
No — premium plugin and theme licences stay in your name, which is deliberate. Licences held by an agency are a lock-in nobody notices until they try to leave.
How the engagement runs
- Scoping call, then discovery. We establish what you actually need before quoting. You approve scope before we write a line of code.
- Fixed price or capped time and materials. Tightly specified work suits a fixed price; genuinely new work suits a capped retainer. We recommend one rather than offering both and letting you guess.
- Weekly demos. You see working software every week, so nothing surprising turns up at the end.
- You own everything. Repositories, infrastructure and documentation transfer to you on payment. No vendor lock-in, no licensing you do not control.
- NDA as standard, usually before the first detailed call. We will often send one ourselves if you do not.
If you are planning work of this kind and want a straight assessment of scope, timeline and cost, tell us what you are building. We work with clients across the UK, EU and US.
